Parents and Friends

Community

The Mentone Grammar Parents & Friends Association (P&F) is a group of volunteers who play an active and productive role in supporting, serving and caring for the members of the Mentone Grammar school community.

Being involved in P&F activities is a great way to connect with Mentone Grammar students and families. The Parents and Friends Association welcomes all members of the School Community. We aim to:

  • Encourage friendship and communication between parents by organising ‘friend raising’ events
  • Ensure the range of events offered are fully inclusive of all the community
  • Encourage a positive and supportive relationship within the community
  • Promote a sense of belonging in the school community
  • Raise funds to contribute to the enhancement of the school environment for our children
  • Have a strong direction, which is consistent, transparent and relevant
  • Be highly approachable and reliable
  • Have great communication within the group, with the school leadership and staff, and the wider community
  • Feel connected by our common purpose of being a part of this community, and have an enjoyable time while we are here.

If you know of anyone in the school community who is interested in joining us or simply wants to get to know people in the community, please contact us.

Class Representatives

Mentone Grammar operates a Class Representative system, where each class from ELC - Year 12 has a parent representative. The Class Rep's role is to facilitate social activities amongst parents, provide a welcome to new parents and perform a vital communication link between the P&F, other volunteer organisations around the School, and the parent community. The Class Representative can also coordinate support to families in times of need such as family illness and provide a valuable link between parents and the school. Once the students move into Frogmore (Years 10 -12), parents can become involved in other committees that surround specialist interests.

The P&F meetings are held once a month at 7.30pm in the Frogmore Staff Room. The schedule is posted on our calendar page.

We run a sub-committee structure for the events and services we offer. So if you cannot make a main committee meeting, but would like to be involved in organising an event, then please contact us. We would love your help!

Although the main focus for the P&F is 'friend raising', fundraising to support the School is part of what we do. We couldn't achieve our goals without the support and sponsorship of generous individuals and local businesses.

In the past, funds have contributed to shade sails, a large aquarium, the first aid caravan, upgrading the bike sheds, a large sandpit, a cubby house and fittings for the ELC and renovating the Greenways kitchen.

The Mentonians Association and the Parents and Friends Association join together each year to plan the Annual Community Golf Day.

This year's event was again blessed with stella weather. There were definitely no excuses for bad play. The ladies longest drive was hotly contested with Dallas Wickenden stealing the distance from Suzanne Ashley’s (Mentone Grammar Alumni Manager) best drive of the day.

The 5th and 11th pins were shaking with Nick Fraser, Emma Padley and Allister Watson all hitting it close.

A cut lunch was required to find David Jones’ ball on the 15th as it was so far down the fairway – he took the mens’ longest drive easily.

Winners for the day shot a net 54.125. Congratulations  to Wayne Hunter, Anthony Lebranski, Russell Saunders and David Teasdale. Long serving Mentone Grammar Golfers Paul Burmeister, Tony Rothberg,  Mark Armstrong and Dale Duggan were pipped by 0.2 shots with a net 54.33. Bridesmaids again!

Richard Veza, Rob Wagner, Brad Lyons and Michael Stratton shot an amazing 57.125 but that only scored 3rd on a day filled with great golfing skill, banter and merriment.

The winners of The Mentonians’ Trophy 2017 were Sven Samild, Anthony Holmes, Simon and Tim Litchfield with a score of 57.625.

We look forward to seeing Mentone Grammars’ Golfing Community on course in 2018 for another friend raising round of Sandbelt golf.
